Endless pixel-art skate and snowboard runs with Skater XL-style controls
by Off2Beans
BITBOARD (formerly Cozy Skate) is a free skateboarding and snowboarding game with a low-resolution 3D pixel-art look: outlined shapes, chunky pixels and warm sunset colours. You pick a spot and a vibe, then ride a run generated from a seed that keeps building as you go, so you never reach the end of the map. The seed is in the link, so a run can be shared.
There are eight spots: the Venice boardwalk, the hills of San Francisco, Tokyo rooftops, the Bronx, the LA River, Barcelona, and two snowboarding mountains, Chair 9 at Big Bear and Thunderbound at Mammoth. Each run is lined with ledges, rails, stair sets, banks, kickers and ramps. Weather (clear, rain, snow, storm) and time of day can be set by hand or follow the real place live.
The controls take after Skater XL: on a controller each stick is one foot, popping with one and flicking with the other. On a keyboard you hold Space to load an ollie and tap trick keys in the air. The in-game trick list covers kickflips, heelflips, shove-its, varials, 360 flips, grabs, manuals, powerslides, reverts and many grinds. Touch controls are available on phones.
Tricks earn in-game bitcoin with a streak multiplier, spent in the locker on board colours, graphics, griptape, wheels and trails. There is an instant replay and a marker to return to a spot. Billboards along each run hold ads that anyone can buy; unsold ones show a placeholder sign.
